Should dogs be fed raw, like they would in the wild?Updated 3 years ago

While your dog may look like he's in his most natural state running outdoors, tongue flapping in the wind, they are also quite happy at home crashed out on your sofa, chewing the remote control.

Dog's evolved away from wolves thousands of years ago and so did their digestive systems. Like humans, dogs lack gut enzymes needed to digest raw plants. Like us, they need help, which cooking provides. These processes break down plant-cell walls and enable them to digest them and access the nutrients.

When it comes to digesting raw meat, an animal needs a lot of stomach acid, which true carnivores have. For omnivores, once again, cooking helps do the work. Cooking also decreases the chance of getting sick from bacteria that can contaminate raw meat.
